RFC said "refitting a Beowulfan SD to Manticoran standards would be just as difficult as refitting a standard SLN SD to those standards. In other words, it would be cheaper and faster to build new ships."

It is made clear than all the stories are about these earliest days.

So nothing from the period of To End in Fire, which is what I most want to read.

That's the formula we've usually seen in the WoW anthologies, the main Books push the main story line forward, while the anthologies fill in the spaces behind the front edge at the time. only a handful of stories were close to the front storyline
edge when written.

However our most recent mainline book, Toll of Honor, also just filled the spaces behind the front and did not push the main story forward.

The Jane story will most certainly be on Stephanie. David's story is always a wildcard.

Marisa is supposed to be taking over from Eric Flint, but I don't see a Kingdom of Torch story, not with the book being described as "A COLLECTION OF TALES SET IN THE EARLY DAYS OF THE STAR KINGDOM".

Jacob, however, might be about Edward Saganami. He's already posted he's going to be working on that. I'm still expecting full novels, but maybe he's starting here.

Thomas "Pope" (My error in the copy/paste) will probably be a Travis Long story, or a technical document.

I wonder who the woman on the cover is supposed to be. She is NOT Elizabeth Winton (unless the cover artist missed a certain detail). For that matter, she isn't Stephanie Harrington either. BTW, I wonder if the Jane Lindskold story will feature Elizabeth Winton (probably before she became Queen Elizabeth I).

MWW has said ToH was written to emphasize that the RMN would have beaten Haven in the first war if there had been a declaration of war.

While I understand there is some interest, a neutral historian would normally say "might have", rather than "would have". Obviously that caution does not apply to an author, who can create any desired result.

Nevertheless the statement just emphasizes that the book is filler and does not push the main story forward.

And to follow up, I have been thinking of possible stories:

1) The formation of the colonization mission (set on Earth, starring Roger Winton)
2) "Jason" arrives at Manticore, then building homes and businesses.
3) The confrontation with the Free Brotherhood
4) The plague years (multiple waves could be covered by more than 1 story)
5) Creation of the Star Kingdom
6) Supplement stories for either (or both) the Stephanie Harrington or Travis Long story arcs.
