Calling a lunatic disgruntled ex employee a Jihadist in contradiction of the authorities who actually investigated the incident is not proof.

Actually he was a both a disgruntled employee and a Jihadist. The FBI is currently investigating because of the Jihadist link. They suspect he may be a Lone Wolf rather than associated with an organized terrorist group. Lone Wolves are the FBI category for terrorists who commit terrorist acts on their own without the support of a larger organization but with the same intent.

He was a recent convert to Islam and attended the local Mosque. While for the most part the Mosque is normal, there are rumors that a small Islamist faction attends there as well and recruits disgruntled angry young men from the worshippers. While not terrorists precisely they teach this cadre of young men "real Islam" including teachings on the Dhimmi (how Muslims should treat Christians: Christians lack right of Muslims, pay extra taxes, etc etc). His Facebook page is full of the usual Jihadist rhetoric one would expect from a Lone Wolf terrorist. He also had been trying to convert co-workers without success and a great deal of his anger stemmed from that lack of success.

On the workplace violence side, he was recently fired.

He actually survived the bullet so unfortunately we'll have to pay a small fortune to try him before Oklahoma can execute him. On the bright side, the FBI behavioral sciences unit will have several years to troll through his head examining his motivations. I suspect they will eventually find that it was a combination of Jihadism and workplace violence. Human emotions are complex things and people often do things for more than one reason.

A web post mentioned that for burglaries, etc. the best thing is a portable boat horn. One of those that can be heard for miles. The author stated he had asked a number of burglars what they would do when hearing an enormous noise.

Of course, this wouldn't work with the deliberately violent.

Don´t be too sure about that. And noise can also be used for its stunning effect...

In many classical martial arts, there´s often a lot of screaming going on, and it´s not just for show, do it right and you shut the opponent down maybe half a second and it´s an easy win. And that´s just using your own voice.

Gives the bonus of a small advantage to strength and speed if you exhale at the right time too. :)

For you or them? for them, you're in trouble, for them, if theres more than one of them, IIRC, stats showed it was worse off for you then unarmed, as gun owners got too cocky. For here: Laws preventing most people from owning them, unless you get a more stringent than normal gun licenses to prevent handgun use and ownership, which prevents hand gun use. To won a handgun here, you have to be a club shooter, attend 12 or more club events a year, and be sponsored by the club after 12 months of supervision, or have a collecters or dealers license, with the collector versions unable to fire normal ammo.

1.6% of crimes in nz involve a gun according to nz police stats, SO i think i'll take option 2 of keeping the guns from the crims as opposed to giving guns to the masses.

One cannot dodge bullets, but one most definitely can dodge the aim of the one the fires the bullets.

And anyone with my martial arts training or similar has quite a fair chance of doing just that. And if they also have a gun, it´s game over for you instead.

If guns were harder to get, most likely the burglar would run off or you might get smacked down. But you would very probably live to chase down the bastard and tell him very "nicely" just what you thought about him.

If guns are the norm, any smart burglar would be prepared for guns. Either way, you loose.
But with guns you probably loose, permanent end of story.

Most burglars aren't smart in that sense or trained, or martial arts trained. They are thieves and crooks. So I'll keep my guns (and swords and knives) for home defense and use them on any home invaders. I should be able to have the means to protect my home and my family and not have to rely solely on the police, especially since I live in the country so it could take awhile for them to get out here.
