What History?

Really? Is a history of racially prejudiced police violence not enough to explain what is happening? Does there have to be some nebulous other that incites good, ordinary citizens to violence? And what do you know about this incident beyond what was reported? Just like I have trouble deriving the existence of UFOs from blurry photographs, shaky videos and the utterings of confused people, so it is here. The presence of an ISIS banner does not an underground movement make.

Wow, how utterly stupid can people get?

There´s plenty enough adults that can´t handle an UZI on full auto(when without stock), and he has a 9-year old play with it on auto after firing what was apparently her first shot ever?

Sure the girl handled single shot just perfectly fine, but that´s just not comparable to autofire from almost any firearm. And a barebones UZI on auto is among the worst possible to start with.

Poor girl.

Surely at some point someone should have stood back and gone, hold on, this isnt a good idea. Giving a gun with a long recoil movement or automatic firing, then putting in the hands of a child who wont be able to control it properly was always going to end up in a situation like this at some point.

The gun instructor was an idiot! Why would a person let a novice let alone a nine-year old girl fire an uzi? I learned to shoot with .22 rifle!

I remember when I was in the military and we were burning off ammo. The Lt. put his M-16 on full auto. He was knocked on his butt because he was not prepared for the recoil of full auto. We all hit the ground because we were worried about getting hit by the idiot Lt. Trust me...he was sent packing!

Completely agree that it was an act of idiocy allowing a nine year old to handle a sub-machine gun like that. And the idiot responsible paid for it with his life.

Thing is, I work at a public shooting range. And what I can't fathom is how the hell a range that allows children to fire automatic weapons untethered was able to get insurance?

We have a set age limit of a minimum of 13 years old to fire rifles, and being Australia, no chance of automatic weapons. Handguns are a minimum of 16 years old. And all of our weapons are tethered to the bench so that they only point down range! It's not perfect, (far from it), but that was about the minimum an insurance company would expect from us if we wanted cover.

So either the instructor was breaking SOP, or the insurance company are idiots. Or the range was uninsured and everyone involved where idiots. That poor kid is going to be scarred for life over this.

Sorry, End of Rant.

Oh, and going back to the fun times in Ferguson, I found this article fairly interesting.

And far too relevant.

Different gunculture. Would you ever expect Australians to protest against a restaurant not wanting guns inside, by openly carrying assault rifles and going there?

Yeah, not going to happen here either.

Not quite so strict here, but OTOH, shooting ranges are either military or belongs to local clubs, and the clubs always has at least one person at hand to provide safety lecture and assistance(without doing idiot stuff).
And you just don´t get to handle a weapon on a club range until you show that you can deal safely with the.
