Thanks all. I didn't remember that there was wear and tear on the ship.
Son, your mother says I have to hang you. Personally I don't think this is a capital offense. But if I don't hang you, she's gonna hang me and frankly, I'm not the one in trouble. —cthia's father. Incident in ? Axiom of Common Sense |

We had a guy who was so chronically seasick. He was seasick with the ship moored to a pier. He was transferred to shore duty to finish out his time and not allowed to re-up. |

I wonder when O'Hanrahan is going to notice the hypicracy of the Messan Alignment, and given her almost genetic hatred of hypocrasy, what will she do about it?

But isn't she a member of the Alignment? Son, your mother says I have to hang you. Personally I don't think this is a capital offense. But if I don't hang you, she's gonna hang me and frankly, I'm not the one in trouble. —cthia's father. Incident in ? Axiom of Common Sense |

She is, but I wonder how far on the inside of the onion she is. Depending of that is her probable reaction. If she's around the same level (or even deeper) as the McBride-brothers were/are, I assume she doesn't care. Is she more on the outside ... who knows? |

Last night my English wife was discussing England with some of her American friends. She mentioned the net worth of the Queen to be upwards of half a billion dollars — apart from the numerous benefits she enjoys from the Crown. I had no idea. She also stated that she receives a government stipend of ~ $13M yearly. What!?
Has textev given the net worth of Elizabeth Winton? And what she receives as a stipend? I wonder if she forgoes the allotment in time of war. Or disaster, like now. I researched it because I couldn't believe it. Son, your mother says I have to hang you. Personally I don't think this is a capital offense. Deanna Troi on ST-TNG can turn her empathic abilities on and off.
Has textev mentioned whether the treecats have the ability to tune out? If the MAlign isolates the gene influencing emotion and goes beyond engineering emotionally dead spies, what if they can insert some sort of high frequency empathic signal to disrupt a treecat's senses or even to inject some sort of subliminal programming? Treecats can't turn off their ability to experience the mind glows of others, but they can brace themselves against them, or ignore them, or choose to focus on other mind glows. Honor has developed this ability as well: Italics are the author's, boldface and underlined text is my emphasis. How treecats and Honor use and rely on their empathetic sense: Italics are the author's, boldface and underlined text is my emphasis. The stories about treecats in the anthologies go into more detail about to what degree of control treecats have over their empathic and telepathic abilities and how they use them. -------------------------------------------------------------

Incredible post Vince. And thanks. I'm going to assume that any such attack by the MAlign can be turned down enough by the 'cats. I just can't shake the feeling that the MAlign are going to engineer some sort of offense and/or defense against the 'cats.

That $13m? Comes from the profits on enterprises once owned by the Crown, and used for the running of Government. As such the royal family only get a relatively small percentage of this value back. Further more, I suspect you'd be surprised how frugal Her Majesty is - in some ways anyway. My personal favourite story is the one where she had a Crown Prince (of Saudi Arabia) nervous as *she* drove him around her estate. There's a lot of complaint that Prince Charles doesn't pay corporation tax on some of his businesses. What the complainants tend not to realise is that he pays (voluntarily) the amount of tax that would be charged if this was personal income, which means he effectively contributes more to the Government than he needs to. |
