We have that. It was written into the law because police violated the provisions of the Constitution on a regular basis. (One of the reasons the police are still not trusted in many places.) But, if the lawyers are controlled by the state, even that is not a deterrent to
tyranny.

The thing to remember about laws is that the only laws that will be obeyed are the ones that the majority of the people of a country agree with. It is societal pressure that determines that a law will be obeyed, not the power of coercion by a ruler. Eventually, the people will prevail, one way or the other.

I went to help my brother move today and he told me about an incident that happened in a town about 250 miles west of here. Single father with an 11 year old daughter. Both avid trap shooters. Father left to go to the grocery store, leaving his daughter locked in at home doing homework for school the next day. Two armed men broke into the house. The little girl ran to her room and locked herself in, then hid in the closet. One of the men chased her, broke into her room and then into the closet where he was met with a twelve gauge shotgun. The little girl blew her attacker in half. When the second shooter took a shot at her, she returned fire, mortally wounding him. He ran out of the house and died in the street. The two men were found to have in their possession weapons that they had obtained by breaking into another house and beating an elderly man to death. I heard absolutely nothing about it on the evening news or on the internet. Why is the fact that a young girl avoided rape and death by killing her attackers with a gun not headline news country wide? Why is it only the criminal use of guns that gets air time?

Doesn't fit the narrative.

It is not an isolated occurrence. The only way it is ever published is local paper. That limited magazine capacity.

Woman virtually the similar situation. Only had a revolver. 6 shots only put 2 in the attacker but police caught him 10 minutes later on the street(she called 911 when the guy started breaking in). Another that didn't make the narrative.

Welcome to the unbiased media world.

While I was helping my brother today, we started talking about the problems he has with his hobby and ATF. My brother is a black powder enthusiast, rebuilding antique guns for use and show. On an average weekend target shoot competition, he will use up to a pound of black powder. The only local supplier can only buy black powder by the case (25 lbs.). That being the case, when he goes to buy more, he gets together with 3 of his friends so that they can all get what they need. Since different guns use different kinds of powder, they buy one case of each kind they need and split it up. The last time they ordered, ATF refused to authorize the sale. The gun dealer, who is licensed to sell the black powder, gave them my brother's name and phone number. They called and asked him why he needed so much powder. When he explained that it was a group purchase, they demanded the names of everyone involved. Only after all 4 were investigated by the FBI and ATF was the sale approved. My brother has been making the same purchase for years. Three of the 4 were at one time or another licensed firearms dealers. Yet, now, every time they buy powder, according to the ATF, they will be investigated. Big brother in action.

Just heard about the mother's day march shootings. Best hope for as full a recovery as possible for the victims.
Just wondering, do the news outlets in the US keep space available to report the day's most spectacular abuse of guns and explosives?

Quite possibly they keep space open for stuff like this, as its what helps sell merchandise.

Just putting in my two cents worth, but I completely agree with Daryl on this point. I lived in Alice Springs on and off for around 15 years, and with a population of 30,000, with a third of them on the dole, and with so many do gooders with zero real world experience telling them all about their "rights"... its a brilliant argument against the welfare state. We had the largest renal ward per capita in the country. For a while, we had a higher murder rate than Detroit. Part of the reason that no one outside of the NT really heard about it was that it was all stabbings and blunt force trauma, and mostly inter tribal violence. The media doesn't really like to report things that prove them wrong.

Seems pretty straight forward. He believes that the American government represents the people. As far as I'm concerned, he's right. If you don't vote you don't have the right to complain and as I recall 2/3 of eligible voters don't have the right to complain. If you have a problem with what your government is doing, get involved, don't just whine and complain on the internet.

Polls show that majority of Americans don't want us in Syria, the vote to give president the authority (Obama noted he dose not need it) in face of warnings from Iran, Russia, and China, to take sides is on the twelfth anniversary of Al Quada's 9/11/2001 attack.

I voted against Obama twice and, one wonders how many cemitaries, illegal aliens, ect. voted from him in the best Chicago tradition. His use of the IRS to attack conservative groups makes Nixon look like a boy scout!

There got the rant off my chest ;)
