A planet by planet blight, the likes of which mankind has never seen, visits celery. Supplies become dangerously low and the scramble is on to find a cure. Treecats are found to become as irritable and confrontational as any human w/o caffeine! Treecat-human bonds are broken. Honor, Elizabeth are heartbroken. Their partners have abandoned them. The MALign are suspected. Celery is now known to be as a drug and treecat addiction severe. Withdrawal drives the cats insane.

Son, your mother says I have to hang you. Personally I don't think this is a capital offense. But if I don't hang you, she's gonna hang me and frankly, I'm not the one in trouble. —cthia's father. Incident in ? Axiom of Common Sense

As you might have noticed, I treat this thread as a treecat employment agency thread.

Treecats DJs take over Manticoran parties because they can mix with both true-hands and hand-legs at the same time.

Treecats open a butcher shop in Landing.

Sorrow Singer is elevated to knighthood.

Some treecats are tricked into working at an aquatic amusement park. They look really miserable all day with they fur perpetually soaked wet.

Treecats enter medical training. Patients are scared by their habit of playing with their claws when they talk about surgery.

Landing's suburbs are terrorized by a gang of leather-clad treecat bikers riding tiny modified Harley.

This could happen.

Why is it unimaginable? :)

Albrecht Deitweiler has a crisis of faith, converts to the Church of Humanity Unchained, and confesses everything to the Solarian press, thereby giving the mandarins a good excuse to apologize to the GA, and everyone lives happily ever after.

I'd really like it to happen, that's for sure. But I don't think we are going to see it : to many plot lines, too many characters, not enough pages. Maybe it could be used as the setting for some politics ...

There's one flaw in this.

The Church would never take him.

Actually, I think they would. They would always take in a truly repentant person who wants to face their Test.

Thereby forcing a schism in the Church - with those who want to accept the repentance as real, and those who reject it as a scam designed to discredit the Church for accepting him - and its your guess as to which side is right.

The Sphinx Forestry Service commissions its first treecat ranger.

Now that the true levels of sentience and organization are fully revealed, and inter-species communication established and improving,...

...I don't consider this unlikely to happen at all.

In fact, it is an ideal job for scouts of the People within the larger integrated culture that will be growing on Sphinx, and on other 'treecat free-range' planets.

Now, whether there will be occasion to see it occur within the storylines of the remaining main arc novels is up for grabs, by tMMW. Perfect fodder for an anthology story, however.

Its been a couple of years since signing became widespread. It would not surprise me to learn that 'cats currently bonded to SFS Rangers have been granted full ranger status, authority, and powers. ...And pay.

Why wouldn't the SFS rangers have treecat rangers IIRC the rangers are the most heavily bonded group on the planet. They also might have something analogues to the USFS 'Smokey the Bear' wildfire prevention campaign. Can you just see it a Treecat wearing a rangers miniature bush hat on the HD signing <Only you can prevent wildfires>.

But then if there are treecat rangers wearing rangers hats, are they supposed to carry their Person on their shoulder too ?
